The Bishop of Southwark together with the patron, the Rector of St Margaret of Antioch Lee wish to appoint a Vicar For the Parish of Lee the Good Shepherd with St Peter
Parish Description: The Good Shepherd with St Peter is an inclusive, thriving and growing Anglican church in Lee, Southeast London, seeking to proclaim the Gospel afresh in community engagement and social action.
Vicar’s Role: The parish seeks a Vicar to lead and nurture The Good Shepherd’s ministry and mission, draw out lay involvement, communicate the gospel effectively, inspire teaching, support pastoral care and contribute as a Governor of the parish Secondary School.
Ideal Candidate: The ideal Vicar embodies love and inclusivity, promotes thoughtful exploration of Christianity, empowers others, prioritises pastoral care and supports our missional priorities. Desired traits include kindness, creativity, emotional intelligence, community orientation and communication, mediation and change management skills.
Inclusion and Diversity: The church emphasises inclusion and diversity, welcoming people of global majority ethnicities, LGBTQ+, and people of different physical and mental abilities (neurodiverse) in both congregation and leadership roles. We seek an individual who will help us progress further in making this a more visible reality.
Church Identity: While rooted in the central CofE tradition, the church identifies as a community church with members from different church backgrounds, prioritising inclusion, community engagement and social action over worship preference. We seek an individual who can embrace and celebrate the rich variety of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives within the congregation and the wider community.
Vision and Future Plans: The church aims to continue and expand our social action programme at St Peter’s, our pioneer ministry grown from initiatives started by our pioneer curate and our relationship with the parish Secondary School currently enhanced by having a pilot Flourish project and worker. We are particularly keen to engage with the new community which will be brought about by a major planned development in Leegate, the commercial centre of the parish.
